Abstract

We are living in the "Big Data" era and the types of data that we are facing, are different from what we have already seen or thought. To cluster these data properly, one needs to accompany tools from a mathematical and statistical perspective. In this talk, I review some important issues affecting the cluster analysis. Using some illustrative examples, I explain various areas where cluster analysis plays a key role. Time permitted, I also provide new challenges in dealing with this topic when the forms of data in hand vary in structure.

Bio

Dr. Golalizadeh did all his educational studies at the university level in statistics. Doing his Ph.D. in Nottingham, he worked in the new field of statistics at that time, called shape analysis. He also worked as a post-doc working in mixed effect models. Now, he is an associate professor in statistics at Tarbiat Modares University and his areas of interest are statistical learning, high-dimensional data analysis and shape analysis.
